The original Nation of Islam was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1930 by Wallace Fard Muhammad also known as Master W. D. Fard Muhammad (1877-1934 or later). The Nation of Islam teaches that W. Fard Muhammad is both the "Messiah" of Christianity and the Mahdi of Islam. One of Fard's first disciples was Elijah Muhammad (1897-1975), who led the organization from 1935 through 1975. [1]
By the time Elijah Muhammad died in 1975, there were 75 centers across America. [1] In 1975, W.D. (Wallace) Muhammad was installed as Supreme Minister of the Nation of Islam. Thereupon he renamed the organization "Muslim American Society" shunned his father's theology and black separatist views, and accepted whites as fellow worshipers and forged closer ties with mainstream Muslim communities in an attempt to bring the Nation of Islam closer into Sunni Islam.

Elijah Muhammad was the runner of the NOI when the civilrights movements came. The people treated as if he had came from god , but he was only a normal person with a philosophy.

Malcolm X was the biggest promoter of the NOI until the orgaznization tried to kill him . HE broak off from the NOI and started his own Organization . When he made his change he was a great person helping the civilrights movement. But he was killed by the NOI side group the black panthers .

Bad company corrupts good morals and thats what happend to Malcomb until he changed.

Theme

The theme of this story is defiantly perseverance. Muhammad Ali grew up in a time when black people were discriminated against, just because of their skin color. In the book it even says that Ali would never give up a fight, he would persevere through it. Muhammad Ali fought not only boxers but politicians, racists, black radicals and his own friends. And persevered the whole time.

In 1999, Ali was crowned "Sportsman of the Century" by Sports Illustrated and the BBC.[1]
Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr., was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He was named after his father, Cassius Marcellus Clay Sr., who was named for the 19th century abolitionist and politician Cassius Clay. Ali changed his name after joining the Nation of Islam in 1964, subsequently converting to Sunni Islam in 1975 and then Sufism.[2]
Ali was known for his fighting style, which he described as "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee".[3] Throughout his career Ali made a name for himself with great handspeed, as well as swift feet and taunting tactics. While Ali was renowned for his fast, sharp out-fighting style, he also had a great chin, and displayed great courage and an ability to take a punch throughout his career.
